I build tools that help people make better decisions.
Senior software engineer based in Arvada, Colorado. By day I help NerdWallet’s content platform reach millions of readers navigating an economy that wasn’t designed to be simple. The rest of the time I’m building toward something bigger.
The day job
At NerdWallet, I’m on the content platform team. We build and maintain the React content creation stack, CMS, APIs, and infrastructure that empower our writers and editors to deliver crystal-clear, actionable financial guidance to everyday families.
I joined NerdWallet because the mission hits home: Provide clarity for all of life’s financial decisions.

Where I come from
I grew up on a small farm in Texas with six awesome siblings, two wonderful parents, and a seemingly endless supply of character-building. Football runs in the family, but after playing through my childhood and formative years I switched paths and took up rugby in college. At St. Edward’s University, I earned a business administration degree with a music minor, won a couple of state rugby championships, made lifelong friends, and—most importantly—met my wife Karissa, my best fried and the mother of our two boys.
Those years taught me about team dynamics, accountability, and channeling an infectiously positive work ethic to tackle hard things. Business and music might seem unrelated to software engineering, but they all come down to the same thing: earned expertise meeting good intuition—knowing when to push, when to listen, and when to step back and let something great happen.
Life in Colorado
Karissa homeschools our two boys while I work remotely. Together, we run a self-sustaining home powered by solar panels and Tesla Powerwalls, with indoor and outdoor gardens and two solar-powered vehicles. It’s not just a lifestyle—it’s a working prototype for the homestead life we want to build in the Rockies.
When I’m not at the keyboard, you’ll find me with family or outdoors. Running, cycling, backpacking, hunting, or snowboarding—I’m usually embracing my inner Sasquatch.
Development Stack
I’m a builder at heart. Whether I’m working with code, atoms, or ideas, I love creating things that last.
With Code
I develop using TypeScript, React, Node/Deno/Bun, PHP, WordPress, GraphQL, REST APIs, AWS, and whatever tools get the job done best.
With Atoms
I grew up on a farm and still charge headfirst into hands-on projects. Over the last five years, we’ve transformed our 1969 home into an efficient, net-zero haven: removing a dilapidated deck and railroad-tie wall, installing 30 tons of gabion cages filled with local granite, building drainage systems, remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms, adding solar + Tesla Powerwalls, a SPAN smart panel, and gardens that actually produce food (plus two productive apple trees).
With AI
I lean heavily on AI to accelerate everything—Grok, Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT for brainstorming, structural planning, CAD designs, and homestead blueprints. I experiment with the latest features (Claude’s cowork and remote capabilities, Grok’s scheduled tasks, Gemini’s improving blueprint skills, and strong CAD generation tools).
I even run my own OpenClaw instance—Skippy Techerson—who helps track long-term homestead goals, researches property trends, construction tech, agriculture advancements, and zoning changes to keep our master plan optimized.
The long game
My north star is a self-sustaining, net-zero homestead in the Rockies—one that combines the best of rural living with modern technology. Not an escape from the world, but a better, more intentional version of it.
Every line of code, every home improvement project, and every intentional choice moves us closer. That vision lives in Devore Technologies, where my side projects—Escape Pod, Deadline, Social Filter—focus on resilience, clarity, and reclaiming attention from algorithms for families who think long-term.
